Thursday Thoughts

God's Plan / My Plan

What a comforting thought! The Lord of heaven and earth has plans for me! YAY!

I am amused (and sometimes saddened) by the things people apply this verse to. Winning a ball game, getting a new job, a new love interest, having a child, and any other thing we consider to be good for us. We have to understand that this verse does not say "I will help you complete the plans YOU have for your life", it says "I have plans for you." God will bring HIS plans to fruition, He never promises to make YOUR plans a reality. God is all knowing and He knows what is absolutely best for us in light of eternity. The first thing to remember is that this promise concerns GOD's plan, not ours.

The scripture itself IS straight forward. but taking any scripture out of God's Word to stand alone is silly. While this promise is absolutely true without any doubt, we MUST take the rest of God's Word into account when claiming it. I won't belabor the point, but want to take one moment to back up one verse...

For this is what the Lord says: “When 70 years for Babylon are complete, I will attend to you and will confirm My promise concerning you to restore you to this place.  Jeremiah 29:10

70 years.

God sees the big picture. In the big scheme of things, 70 years is not so long. So, when we claim the promise that God has plans for us, the second thing to remember is that the promise is in God's time.

Finally, we have to remember that God's ultimate goal is to Bring Himself Glory, because in revealing His glorious self, people doomed for hell find the hope of heaven. That's what this life is really about...drawing others to salvation. From God's vantage point, the BEST thing for you might just be to have cancer so that you can share His love and message with a fellow cancer patient; might be that you lose a child so that others can see the hope and strength you have in Christ; might be that you don't get your dream job because He knows it would compromise your integrity.  The final thing to remember when claiming this promise is that God's plan for your life will bring Him glory.  In the end, the only things we will REALLY care about are those things that have eternal significance....those things which bring glory to God.

So, remember, God DOES have a plan for you... to give you a future and a hope..

It's His PLAN
In His TIME
For His GLORY

Just my thoughts,
Kris
